She can't forget him--He can't remember her
Together, they must discover the healing power of unforgettable love

The day Lieutenant Matthew Foster departed for his so-called 'tour' in Vietnam, he never expected a sudden change in his itinerary would include an extended stay in the horrific Hanoi Hilton. Six years later, he's finally released with the other POWs during Operation Homecoming. Unfortunately, his memories before his capture were erased by the complimentary torture provided by the hotel's concierge. Due to prior facial injuries and the beard concealing his gauntness, he looks nothing like the boyish photo in his military file.

When the Army informs Matt he has a wife and he was mistakenly declared dead, he's sure Abby must have made a new life for herself. He doubts the bitter man he's become can salvage the boy she once cared for, so to be fair to her, he decides to simply write a note to wish her well and leave. But before he does, he can't resist going to Redemption, PA, to catch a glimpse of the woman he'd loved enough to marry.

The irony of the small town's name is totally eclipsed by Matt's dread that he'll discover he's lost something truly worth remembering. That fear becomes reality when he learns Abby is engaged, and he's a daddy! Luckily, his wife doesn't recognize him, so Matt could still walk away from the beautiful stranger who's been starring in his X-rated dreams. However, he could never, ever abandon his sons.

The clock is ticking. Any day, the military will inform Abby he's alive, and her wedding is in only six weeks. It doesn't give Matt much time to discover if he can reclaim the love the war stole from him.

WOW is all I can say!!!! Laurie Kellogg has written an awesome story about love lost to the war. I've never felt such sympathy for any characters than I have for Abby & Mac(Matt). They married young because of an oops & he got called up to serve in the Army shortly after they did. After yrs as a POW he returns to find out his wife is about to marry & he has a son. What he does is amazing & I wish I could go further but I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't read this book yet. This book is a definite MUST read, it's not something I would've picked up on my own really if I hadn't been looking through Net Gallery but I'm so glad I did. Laurie Kellogg's story is heart wrenching, up lifting & just plain wonderful.

The Memory of You Laurie Kellogg 9781470009663 Books Reviews

This was the first book by Laurie Kellogg that I read years ago. It peaked my interest due to a military romance. And not did it deliver. I have read several other military romance books before and since but this one stands out the most. She was able to make me feel like a fly on the wall and in Matt's mind. His angst was real. With PTSD a common problem now named the things out Nam Vets went thru seemed real. Great story. Glad to see her writing more in a newer book about Matt's friend.
No wonder "The Memory of You" won the Golden Heart award.
Once I began to read this wonderful story of a returning Vietnam POW who returns home to find his wife
recently engaged to another man, I could not put it down. Ms. Kellogg really captures the male point of view--a
nice guy who just wants to do the right thing for his six year old sons, yet finds himself falling back in love with his
wife as he struggles to reclaim his memory. Oh, yeah, Mac returns home with a really bad case of amnesia.
If you like to read a fully fleshed out love story, this is your ticket. This author does a great job of moving
the story forward while also showing us the past--how Abby and Mac met and fell in love and were so perfect
for each other--before the Vietnam War pulled them apart.
My recommendation--if you have any doubts as to whether this story is for you--order the free sample--by
the time you read the sample, you will be ordering the full book and rooting for these two wonderful people to get together.
Story of a man who was held in a Vietnam POW camp for over 6 years and assumed dead, has come back to his family. Unfortunately, Mack has come back with a bad case of amnesia and horrific nightmares of his time in the camp. After undergoing many operations to restore his face from the torture he endured, his wife does not recognize him. And Mac finds her now engaged to another man. He takes on a role as handyman to stay close to her and their son. He won't tell her who he really is unless she loves the new Mac and not just the memory. Ms Kellogg tells the story in the past of how they met, and got together. Mac is concerned that when and if he does get his memory back, he will find out he was a terrible scoundrel. This is such a powerful, gut and heart wrenching story. It was a book that was hard to put down. It flowed so well and the anticipation of if Abby would find out who this man really is. The only 'con' I had about the book is that it sort of got off track with the piano business with the boy. Sort of felt off course to me and was more of a distraction. But I loved this story. I can't wait to read the rest of this series.
The Redemption series by Laurie Kellogg is one of my all time favorites! I have read them all but avoided this one for two reasons. First, I didn't really want to read about Vietnam and the horrors that happened during that time. Second, I was leary that I wouldn't be able to believe this story line. I mean, really, your husband comes home and has physically and emotionally changed so much that you don't recognize him? That's a hard pill to swallow.

Since this was the only book I hadn't read and it came up as a free offer, I finally one-clicked it. I am so glad I did! This is an amazing story. Once I got into the story and also remembered the timeline (medicine wasn't that evolved yet too) of when these events happened I could totally understand the physicall and emotional changes that happened to Matt/Mac. Matt/Mac touched my heart with this story and I can only imagine that this really could be a true story of one of the men who served during this awful time. Abby was delightful in every way and I loved that she had remained faithful to Matt/Mac and just wouldn't believe that he had passed. Yes, I am a sucker for true love and this story is definitely one for the heart strings.
There is a wonderful happy ending and future look and I love that about Laurie Kellogg. She always has a great ending and her books leave me feeling satisified.

Just one word of caution in my opinion - when Matt is recalling his time as a POW throughout the book, I found them tough to read as again, I know I could be reading about things that really did happen. Other than that, I truly loved it.
I literally read this book in about 7 hours! I could not put the book down...well only for restroom breaks and snacks! It is a beautiful love story. I love the way the author infuses the flashbacks of the characters to educate the readers about the past and to connect with the present to tell the story. I could actually "feel" Mac's (Matt's) emotional pain from the brutality he suffered at the hands of the enemy while in captivity! I could "feel" the unbridled passion that Abby carried for Matt over the years, even after being told he had been killed when his copter crashed. I have not personally known servicemen who were POW's but I have known several who endured injuries while in battle. The story is so realistic - I can hardly wait to read another novel by this great author! I see where she has authored several books in the Redemption series that sound every bit as interesting, so that series will be next on my reading list! This is the first time I have read a book by this author, Laurie Kellogg, but it will most definitely not be the last time, because I am now one of her biggest fans!
