Isabella Anders has always been the girl that never fit in. Most days she feels invisible, especially when she’s around her older sister, Hannah, who catches the eye of everyone, including Kai and Kyler, the boys who live next door.

Isabella has had a crush on Kyler for years, but knows he’ll never see her as anything more than Hannah’s little sister, unless she finds a way to standout.

When Isabella gets an offer from her grandmother to travel overseas for the summer, she seizes the opportunity, hoping she’ll discover more about herself. And she does, but not in the way that she expected.

Three months later, Isabella returns home an entirely new person. The change is enough to catch both Kyler and Kai’s attention. But Isabella is still struggling with what she discovered over the summer and until she deals with the truth, she’ll never truly be herself.

The Year I Became Isabella Anders (Sunnyvale Series Book 1) eBook Jessica Sorensen Reviews

Jessica delivers another 5* rating!! This is not a stand alone and leaves you with a cliffhanger.

How can you stand strong when all your life you have been made to feel like you don't matter even by your own family? Come to find out things are never as they seem and what you thought your whole life are nothing but lies!!

I can't get enough of Jessica's books she has a way of captivating you with every story she writes. This book will have you laughing out loud, angry, crying and just down right pissed off. The characters in this story are very well written and the bantering had be cracking up. Again another great read!!
Isabella Anders is an outcast. Not just to other kids her age but also to her own parents and sister. The only 2 people that have ever been somewhat nice to her are the brothers from next door, Kyler and Kai. When Isa's parents decide to send her with her grandmother for the summer Isa comes back a different person. She finds out something that will change her life forever. Not only that but she's also managed to catch the attention of the boys next door.

Huge Jessica Sorensen fan right here!!! I haven't read anything by Jess in awhile so when I saw that this released I dived right in.

"I make a vow to myself right then and there that when I get back from this trip, things will change. I'm not sure how it's going to happen, but if I can survive seventeen years of being picked on, I sure as hell can figure out a way to finally make it stop."

I really liked Isa. The only problem I had with her is that she would never speak her mind to her parents or her incredibly snobby older sister Hannah. She finally did but it took a long time.

I liked Kyler but we didn't get a whole lot from him in the story which I'm actually ok with. He's the one Isa has had a crush on forever but Kai stole the show in this story in my opinion. He's mysterious. I want to know more about him and what's happened to make him the way he is.

Isa's grandma Stephy and cousin Indigo were just as great. They played a big role and I'm hoping Jessica writes a story about Indigo.

Great story, easy read and I'm excited to get the next book.
By the time I was 15% into reading this book, I was hooked. The drama of this book continually builds completely enthralling you with the story. The story is masterfully conceived and makes for a great read. The character development is masterful.
Seriously how can you do this to us. I just new it was going to end without any answers and leaving us hanging. Man I don't quite get Isa's dad but her sister and mom are straight up bitches. How can they treat her so horrible. She's never done anything wrong to them and they treat her like dirt and scum. Then there's Kai and kyler, at first I was liking Kyler but that only lasted for like two seconds. In the beginning you get to know a little bit about him and he was always nice to Isa a bit but that was only a bit in the beginning. The rest of the book was mostly her and Kai. You get to know more about Kai and he just starts to pull you in more. I'm sure kyler has a good heart but I'm rooting for his brother on this one. Of course with everything Isa's sister has done to her some people may think why do they like Isa, but my thought is guys don't like girls that are bitches, cruel or hurtful to others. Really who does, they like nice hearted people and even though Isa wasn't cool or popular and she didn't dress to impress she was a good person inside. Again nobody wants a bitch! Now sense we have to wait for another book to come out to get answers and an ending I'm hoping that everything turns out great and that karma comes back a million times and kicks Isa's mom and sister in the ass like they deserve. If I could make a wish for Isa, it would be that she became something big and awesome while her mother and sister somehow ended up nothing great, ah well I guess I'll have to wait and see how things turn out. Oh and yes this is a good book I just hate having to wait for another one to see what's going to happen and how everything is going to turn out. It drives me crazy waiting lol.
Isabella has always been alone. she doesn't remember the last time she was hugged or been talked to in a kind way. It seems like there's no reason for the coldness in her parents ' eyes and the hatred she feels coming from her mother and sister, but in her heart she knows something is not right.
When she is told to spend the summer with her grandmother to let her parents escape from her for some time, she takes this opportunity to get strong and prepare to stand up for herself. But what she discovers even before the trip to Europe starts changes her perspective on things.
When she gets back with a new look and seemingly a new personality too, determined to uncover the truth behind her bad relationship with her family, she starts to look for hints about her past.
Not only her family, but her hot neighbours also notices she changed over the summer, and it seems like everyone looks at her differently, like she is not a looser anymore. But as she slowly finds out about the the reasons, her world crashes down once again, and she has to realize, this is more than she can handle.
This book is not really about high school crushes and teenage problems. This is not a romance book like I originally thought as well. Well, it has romance in it, it's just not the main line of the plot.
One big minus for all the mistakes in the book, like names and details, this book is in need of another editing session.
0.4 minus for Isa's character. It drives me crazy how she puts up with Lynn 's and Hannah's sh*t. I feel like her character is not that well-structured, because she is so outgoing and open sometimes, and other times she is a scared little girl who thinks everyone is out there to make her life a living hell. Her personality is so ambivalent, she sometimes looks like a bipolar patient.
Otherwise, the story is exciting and interesting, the characters are good, and there's a great mystery. I'll definitely read the second book.
