I really can't rate this book low, I got to chapter three and gave up. I have read all these techniques over the years to no avail.Unfortunately, I was born with Cerebral Palsy, a birth defect that is caused by lack of oxygen to the brain which affects different skills and abilities. In my case I will never be able to speed read and comprehend what I'm reading. I read less than 150 words a minute, and do well, speed reading takes the joy out of one thing I love, reading. I'm now concentrating on just enjoying reading, and not how fast I can get from cover to cover. All this book did was make me feel inferior.
Not the author's fault. I thought there would be newer material in this book that I haven't tried before. Hence the three star rating. Nothing I haven't already tried.
Might help others, but not for me.

This book contains a lot of effective techniques about speed reading. The part that I like the most about this book is that it shows the reader some of the bad habits that need to be avoided to improve reading speed. I didn't even know that I had them until I read this book.
I liked the over all concept of this book. It addressed the importance of speed reading and the over all benefits. If you are a person that loves to read and are some how questioning your ability to comprehend what your reading, this book offers amazing techniques. As I was reading I was able to buy into its concepts. I definitely recommend this book.
Speed reading for beginners was extremely helpful and practical for what I was looking to learn from this book. At the start of this book I was reading about 150 words a minute and double my reading speed by the end of the book. The tips and strategies really do work. Thanks!
The book is a good introduction to speed reading. It discusses eliminating destructions, reading in a nice quite place with an alert mind. It talks about eliminating subvocalization and reading groups of words but does not give any study guides / practice passages on how to accomplish this.
This is a thorough book! I highly recommend that if you want to improve your reading, that you take your time with this book. Take lots of notes and you may even want to read and re-read this book again. Chapters 6 and 7 are two of the most important chapters to focus on. This book will be a bestseller I am sure of it! Great work!
This is a great overview of techniques to increase your reading speed. To actually make this work you need to practice this a lot I believe. If you are doing any of the habits that slow you down it is very hard to break yourself from them. Although most everything in here I did hear of before it was still nice to remind myself of a few things I needed to work on. Also, at least one thing that slows people down was something I didn't know anyone outside of elementary school actually did. Maybe they don't though and it is just a cautionary reminder.
Great information on learning how to improve one's reading speed. I have taught speed reading before and was familiar with some of these strategies and techniques. But there were also some new ideas for me to try. I like being challenged! This is a very good book for anyone who wants to learn how to speed read. The author doesn't share just one way to improve reading speeds, they share a variety of strategies so you can develop the ones which work best for you. This is a great resource!
